Progress not Perfection in Prophetic Pictures
After catching the painting bug, a stream of new pictures followed, fuelled by times of prayer and praise, and an interest in the prophetic. The point was not to create pictures for public consumption, but rather to enjoy the process and get the pictures out of my head.
Artists have been interested for centuries in what heaven might look like, and the picture below was an early attempt to capture the curving beams of light that I saw in my mind's eye when thinking about the angelic host and their worshipful response to the presence of God. This was painted with the children's poster paints, on the back of a ruled refill pad. No art materials? No problem! Progress not perfection.

Untroubled by my technical inability and lack of training, and because my pictures were just between me and God, I pressed on to attempt the dazzling presence of an angel (below). Enjoying the colour and texture of paint in God's presence was a real pleasure.
Sometimes during times of prayer ministry a painted picture would return to mind, and I would share it with the person. This happened a number of times over the years, and there's something powerful about sharing a picture painted years ago with someone who sees significance in it today. God just keeps speaking.

Looking back, I can see that God was training me to be obedient, and paint what I could see even when I didn't particularly like either the picture or the style of painting. I was to leave my foolish perfectionism behind and create in His presence, leaving the outcome and purpose to Him.
Living in a season of obedience and mystery can be tough. Is God leading you through this kind of season right now?
